META Belize, Clinical Mental Health Therapist, Azalia Larrieu, MSW, CCTS-I facilitated, Kids Cool Connections with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

This summer, the Port Loyola Public Library was the hub of fun and learning. META Belize was proud to hold a summer program over the course of 6 weeks this year. Ten primary school children from within the Port Loyola community participated in the program.

The children would meet every Wednesdays to discuss the challenges they were facing in everyday life and express themselves in a safe and open environment. The program’s aim was to teach them about the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and actions. A mixture of games, handouts, home activities and therapeutic exercises were used throughout the sessions. “Cool Connections” is designed to encourage resilience and self-esteem and reduce feelings of anxiety and depression (Seiler, 2008). The kids had fun during each session. Fun games and activities helped them to learn more about these concepts. Everyone gained a deeper understanding of themselves and created close friendships.

Making those connections

The program successfully concluded after 6 weeks of sessions and the students were awarded certificates of completion. META congratulates the participants and thank their parents and the Port Loyola Library, Mrs. Keisha Zelaya, and Ms. Janine for their support.

We look forward to facilitating the program summer 2023! Be sure to look out for our open registration link.
