On Monday morning, reality came one step closer to Belize. Since December 2019, we have been hearing about COVID-19 and its impact on the world.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as a “respiratory illness that can spread from person to person. The virus that causes COVID-19 is a novel coronavirus that was first identified during an investigation into an outbreak in Wuhan, China.” (cdc.gov, 2020). The virus is highly infectious and has known to cause death for those with poor immune system. Not to cause alarm: we have been made to understand there is no vaccine or treatment currently available for COVID-19.
It is no doubt then that we are not only faced with changes in our everyday life but also with a fear for our lives and the lives of our loved ones.
The outbreak of COVID-19 may begin to affect our social wellbeing causing an increase in stress, anxiety, and possibly depression. Although we are being ask to remain at home they are many ways we can continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
