Family Therapy/ Family Counseling

Family is defined by many as “a socially recognized group (usually joined by blood, marriage, cohabitation, or adoption) that forms an emotional connection among its members and that serves as an economic unit of society”. However, the reality is that it is very difficult to objectively define what a family looks like.

A family is part of an interconnected system. For many the family should be their safety net, however in many instances this may not be the case. Families would start family counselling because they are experiencing problems that is creating stress, and conflict.

Family counselling is designed to address specific factors affecting health and positive functioning of the family. These difficult situations may be a difficult time, a major transition, or a mental/behavioural health problem.
