Bullying prevention in Belize was the focus of a META Belize session at Itz’at STEAM Academy on October 2, 2025. Students, faculty, and staff took part in “Level Up: Beating Bullying with Confidence.” The session encouraged students to build confidence, practice self-compassion, and think about how they can help create a kinder school environment.
Building Confidence Against Bullying
Azalia G. Larrieu, Clinical Director of META Belize and a Clinical Trauma-Informed Specialist, led the presentation and activities. More than 200 students from first through third form participated in the session.
Through interactive activities and meaningful discussions, students explored practical approaches to confidence-building, mindfulness, and self-compassion. They also considered how their actions can support classmates and contribute to a respectful school community.
About Itz’at STEAM Academy
Opened in 2023, Itz’at STEAM Academy is a Belize City high school with a focus on preparing students for opportunities in technology and related fields.
The academy aims to create a diverse and inclusive school community. Its educational approach encourages young people to develop knowledge, skills, creativity, and an interest in improving their communities.

Bullying prevention in Belize involves more than responding to individual incidents. Schools can also encourage confidence, respectful communication, empathy, and supportive relationships among students.
During the META Belize session, students had opportunities to reflect on how they respond to difficult situations. In addition, the activities encouraged them to consider how they can support one another rather than contribute to harmful behavior.
