Healthy Lifestyle and Mental Wellness

Many people understand the concept of physical wellness because it something we can physically see, test, and understand. For many, mental wellness isn’t something that comes to mind often. Societal standards tell us that we are either “normal” or not, and if we aren’t able to fit into their definition of “normal”,  then we must be “crazy” which is not quite right! What would our world look like if we were all the same? Diversity has brought excitement in our society.

According to the World Health Organization, mental wellness is “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community” (2021).

The stigma that surrounds mental wellness has been one that has haunted us for centuries. However, there is nothing wrong with getting to know oneself and learning to build your resilience.

Positive mental health allows us to cope with the stress of life, be productive and realize our full potential.
