Dr. Azalia Gongora Larrieu is the Founder and Clinical Director of Meta Belize Group Practice. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Belize and holds a Doctor of Social Work in Trauma-Informed Leadership and Practice from Barry University, a Master of Social Work from Western Kentucky University, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Murray State University.
Her clinical work supports individuals and families across the lifespan, with particular attention to trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, relationships and family experiences. Her approach considers the connection between thoughts, emotions, relationships, the body and the wider environment in which each person lives.
Depending on the client’s needs and her training, Dr. Azalia integrates approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, trauma-focused interventions, mindfulness-based methods, expressive and art-based activities, emotional-regulation skills and family-informed practice.
In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Azalia is an adjunct professor and internship field supervisor in Galen University’s Master of Social Work programme. She previously served as Chair of the Social Work Department at the University of Belize and currently serves as Vice President of the Mental Health Association of Belize.
Her leadership and consultation work focuses on trauma-informed organizations, staff well-being, reflective supervision, mental health access and strengthening the systems that support children, families and frontline professionals.
